Artist Bio

I love acrylic paint, it is an easy and versatile medium to work with, that dries quickly and allows for rapid layering between coats and blends with a variety of mediums.  This matches with my own style of layering paint to create a sense of depth and atmosphere.

Nature is my main inspiration, the beauty in the tiny details and the blend of so many colors that can be seen in bright sunny fields or the deep forested shadows.  The graceful movement of the deer as it moves quietly through the trees.

The balance of life and death that is both celebrated and accepted as part of the natural cycle.  Animals, plants, insects, and all living creatures living together as part of a grand design, a fragile balancing act.  I am especially drawn to predatory animals such as wolves, cougars and owls in my art.

In my paintings, I explore the concept of life and death and how they balance each other.  The beautiful explosion of color that fills the trees right before all the leaves fall away to reveal the barren skeleton below, and the stark severity of its naked limbs reaching towards a frigid sky.  I want to show the beauty of death as much as life, to show that the dark can be as beautiful as life.
